We’re changing our name to reflect that we’re a lot more than guild hosting. But I don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea – guild hosting is still a major priority for us. I got involved with this company because I believe that guilds/clans/kinships/corporations, whatever you want to call it, are the levers that move the world of multiplayer gaming. Furthermore, the intrepid cat herders that lead these groups are the fulcrums.
Talk is cheap. Employees are not cheap, and scrappy startups like GamerDNA have a hundred places to put every dollar. We aren’t in the position to hire anyone who isn’t crucial to our mission. So, let me introduce you to the proof that GamerDNA still has gaming groups at the core of our mission. She’s a programmer named Valerie. Read on!
Sanya: What kinds of gaming groups have you belonged to over the years?
Valerie: I got my online start in Amazon Basin in Diablo II, Rest in Peace and Eternal Wrath in EQ1, Namidas on Sylph in FFXI and FoH in EQ2.
More recently, I have been dabbling in various games and not raiding full time though.
Sanya: What was the first multiplayer game you ever played?
Valerie: Diablo 1.
Sanya: What are you playing now?
Valerie: WoW, AoC, FFXI and Cabal Online.
(Editor’s note: She calls that “dabbling.” /boggle)
Sanya: So, when you were hired by GamerDNA, what did they tell you they wanted you for?
Valerie: I think originally the team was small enough that Jon could have put me in a variety of roles. I have a broad software background as well as art, so I could have done anything from doing what I do now (code) to working with Sean [the Creative Director and Big Fancy Designer Guy] on the more creative, but technical side of things.
Sanya: What are you actually doing?
Valerie: Currently I am working on the guild features.
Sanya: What are you working on next?
The features we list on the site are basic guild hosting, events and guild communication. This is quite a large feature set, and I’m committed to making this complete and fully bug-free.
Sanya: What tool does GamerDNA not offer, something that you daydream about sneaking past Trapper?
Valerie: I have a lot of ideas that I’d like to do when we get the base functionality up and successful, but in the next year, I’d like to get DKP/attendance and loot tracking up to par.
