Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 | News

It is that time again… Release notes!

All of the screens you use to update your gamerDNA has been moved over to the new DNA section and out of that floating panel. You can always edit your DNA by clicking your name in the nav bar and selecting "Edit my gamerDNA" or by hitting this link when logged in:

Definitely check out your new game list. You can now rate games and you can individually control which ones appear in your public profile:

As always, we are interested in feedback on where things are headed… positive feedback to as we get quite a bit of constructive stuff! :)

Member Profile Changes/Enhancements

  • Removed the GAMES tab from the member home page. All games you play are now automatically added to your gamerDNA. You can view your game list and choose to keep them, delete them, and embellish them with ratings, traits, and comments.
  • Moved the game list out of the panel, complete with progress, a new rating system, and a profile flag to control what displays in your profile game list.
  • Games can now be deleted from your profile on the new game list in the DNA section.
  • Build out the new images section.
  • Built out the new attitudes section.
  • Built out the new watch-list configuration pages.
  • A new star system for rating games has been added. This replaces the LIKE/DISLIKE rating of previous.
  • Games added to your profile now display a percentage complete in your list… 100% means you have added it (25%) Traited it (25%) Rated it (25%) and added a game comment (25%).
  • By default, all friends added to the system are automatically assigned to your watch list. You can remove them from the watch list settings.
  • The member name in the profile header is now clickable and takes you to the member public homepage.
  • Fame history is now a link in the activity page to filter all activity by only the ones that provide fame.
  • All remaining links in the DNA panel now link to the new DNA pages… the panel will remain until we move out experiences in the coming weeks.
  • When clicking your avatar in your profile header, you are now taken to the member information edit screen instead of an in-place image uploader.
  • Added the ranking to the personal game pages as well as changed the location of the edit link for the game comment.
  • When you enter a list on the DNA page and you do not have any items, you are kicked directly into the add screen for the item.
  • Fixed an issue where the background image wasn’t appearing for the member profile. The gradient was bleeding through instead of the black background.
  • Pending friends in your friend list are now clickable when they exist as gamerDNA members.

General Changes/Enhancements

  • Added 728×90 banners to the top of the member directory and game directory pages.
  • Star rating added to places where games appear in discovery system and on profile game list.
  • Anywhere in the site referencing the old panel links has been linked over to the new DNA section pages.
  • Removed the history events for "game judged" and added history event for "game rated"
  • Back-populated all of the completion bars for all users and all games in the system.
  • Added some long-term caching to javascript and css files so that they aren’t downloaded until we publish new versions and you won’t have to clear your cache to see them.
  • Built out a script to back-populate a new user platform model once the interface is ready to go.
  • Fixed an issue that was allowing user names to conflict with guild names if the user clicked really fast and the ajax username check hadn’t completed.
  • Fixed a bug that was causing threads that displayed item stats to break in the forums.
  • Added caching for game directory roll-up queries.
  • Tweaked the design of the search results page to use the new style templates.
  • The game type-ahead on the member directory now shows the platform after you select the game.
  • Links added to the game directory in some locations where they were missing.
  • If you put your full gamerDNA openID login in the login box, it will strip off the unneeded .gamerdna.com pieces and properly submit the username.
  • Tweaked the trait widget on the member and game directories to prevent over-counting.
  • Corrected quiz results for music quiz to remove some incorrect numbering.
  • Corrected some logic that was causing the discovery system to recommend games already in your profile. This was caused by some issues with linking up across platforms.

Group Hosting Changes/Enhancements

  • Guilds admins can now rename their guild. When you rename a guild, you are kicked over to the logo screen to confirm how your logo looks.
  • New theme: Alien Apocalypse! – Our Alien Apocalypse theme offers a huge range of color customization. You can change the main information panel to any color of your choice, and switch the border, frame, and background images to three different metallic shades automatically. You can also swap between different characters and backgrounds for the main title banner or supply your own images for all!
  • Fixed an issue that was preventing recruiting of games due to differences in the way the name was showing on the page and how it was stored in our database. They now map correctly.

That is it for now! The next couple of weeks will yield big changes to the experiences system and give you a ton of new ways to add game activity to your profile so you can build a much richer history of your gaming and provide new detail to inform your friends/guilds/clans what you are up to.
