Seattle PAX 2009 – Come get some gamerDNA Swag!

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009 | Fun Stuff, News, gamerDNA Life | Comments

The biggest consumer game show in North America known as Penny Arcade Expo is this weekend, and we’re very excited about it! Seattle PAX this year looks like it will be a lot of fun, and we’ll be there at the show!

GamerDNA’s Community Manager, Sam Houston (that’s me!) will be at PAX all weekend and he will even have some gamerDNA swag to give away.  Sam will be at the show wearing a gamerDNA shirt, so he should be fairly easy to spot.  Here’s a picture to help you out:

TwitterAvatarSam is on a panel on Saturday at 1:30pm at the Unicorn Theatre, and we would love to see you there.  A special bonus for attending will be receiving a gamerDNA Sticker, which Sam is handing out after the panel.  Here is the description of the panel:

Saturday, 1:30pm – 2:30pm, Unicorn Theatre

Twitter and Beyond – New Game Communities Online

Online game communities are changing rapidly as social media is being used more and more by gamers. No longer are people primarily congregating on official game forums. They’re talking with each other on Twitter, Facebook, and in other types of online communities about games. For this reason, Community Managers are actively leveraging social media tools to keep online communities informed and engaged with their games. This panel will discuss the exciting transition of game companies using social media to build, communicate with, and engage with players as well as highlight the macro-trends that impact all online communities. Panelists include executives from both the game development and social media side of the fence.
Panelists Include: Michelle Broderick [Moderator] – (Marketing Director and Community Manager, Yelp.com), Morgan Romine (Fragdoll Team Captain, Ubisoft), Jaap Tuinman (Director of Social, Community, & Online Marketing, EA), Sam Houston (Online Marketing Manager, GamerDNA), Meghan Rodberg (Senior Manager of Online Community Relations, Turbine)

If you see Sam outside of the panel make sure you “hey” when you see him.  He will be giving out gamerDNA stickers all weekend to community members, and it would be great to meet members of the community!  Here are the new gamerDNA stickers:

I hope to see you at the show, it should be a lot of fun!

GamerDNA Desktop Backgrounds

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 | News | Comments

For some time now, our Creative Director Sean Duhame (Alphadoque) has been rocking a GamerDNA Desktop background on his work computer.  Ever since I saw it I wanted one for myself…and that day has finally come for the GamerDNA Community (and me!)!

Sean has made several sizes, so you can pick your favorite flavor (or rather, resolution):

Click through to the Image Page, then right-click save-as on the image to save it to your computer and set it as a desktop background.

We’re excited to see these finally out there!  If you set it as your background, please take a picture of it on your computer and give us the heads up!  We’d love to see gamerDNA on your rig!

What would you like to ask GamerDNA?

Friday, July 10th, 2009 | News | Comments

What would you like to ask GamerDNA staff about GamerDNA?

It has been no secret that we’re working hard on some stuff behind the scenes, and we haven’t had a lot of updates because of it…so we’d like to get our community more involved. ChangeAgent and QforQ will be doing a 30 minute "GamerDNA Townhall" video in about a week and a half (July 22nd target date), where we answer YOUR questions!

These can be questions or feedback on GamerDNA, features that you would like to see, asking us how we do things at GamerDNA, or some of the features that will come down the road. Basically anything you want to ask the gamerDNA staff, please ask it!

We will be taking the common and popular questions and answering them in the video. If you have something you’d like to ask, please post them in the comments below before July 20th.

Thank you GamerDNA Community! We look forward to answering your questions!

Thanks,
Sam Houston

Bloons Tower Defense 3 – GamerDNA featured Play Now game

Thursday, June 11th, 2009 | News | Comments

This week’s featured GamerDNA Play Now game is Bloons Tower Defense 3, a fantastic tower defense game on Kongregate.

The game is similar to many other tower defense games, in that you have to defend your base against the onslaught of enemies…except in this game you have to defend yourself from a barrage of deadly balloons, using Monkeys that have been trained to throw darts at fast speeds.  As you build up more cash, you can hold off the onslaught of balloons by creating Missile Launchers, Saw Blade Shooters, Catapults, and a Super Monkey which can throw darts at insane speeds.

Bloons Tower Defense 3 starts out by giving you 75 lives, which you need to hold out with at least one life left for all 50 rounds to beat each track.  The game has a variety of different tracks, with different strategies that can be used on each one.  After you beat each track you can receive a medal, which is saved to your account and shows up when you view the track listing.

The game is one of our favorite Kongregate games on GamerDNA, and we encourage everyone to check it out!  All you have to do is go to the Bloons Tower Defense 3 game page on GamerDNA, the press the Play Now button!

Have fun!
